Here is the start of the cabinet, unfortunately it got broken, I was bringing it in to the house from my workshop, to show my friend Keith, and I passed it in through the backdoor to him, he thought it was all fully glued together, it wasn't, and it all fell apart on the tiled kitchen floor, and the right hand Side Panel broke in half, I must have got the design right, as this is exactly where the original VCS3's break

The front and lower aluminium panels are only spare bits I had in my workshop, I'm getting proper panels made locally, the panels will be 2mm thick, these ones are 1mm.

The Dimensions of the case are as on original H 44cm x W 43cm x D 42cm.

The panels are Upper W 40cm x H 32cm x 2mm and the lower panel is W 40cm H 30cm x 2mm.

After a brief visit to Shanghai, I was unsuccessful in finding anything useful to help build the clone, the trouble with China is that it's such a new capitalist country, it doesn't have any old resources. It's O.K. if you want to have 100,000 custom made Joysticks, but if you're just looking for 10 off Joysticks, no chance.

As you can see from the additional photo's I managed to make a pretty good job of repairing the broken right hand side panel, I had to make a new top panel, I had made a mistake, I assumed that the cut supplied timber, would have a 90 deg cross cut finish, wrong, more like 87 degs.

This is just a prototype case, once I have seen how to improve the manufacturing I will make a new one, I see that my cut-outs for the Metal Panels, are too close to the upper surfaces of the case, and are prone to damage, also the upper slot for the speaker grill could be removed, this would make the joint between the upper and lower panels stronger.

I have ordered the correct thickness panels, the guys who are making the panels have offered to punch all the necessary holes for the control pots. If they do a good job I'll post their company on the website.

As you can see from the last five pictures they did do a good job cutting and punching the panels, the VCS3 clone is coming together, next is the wiring, power supply construction, my own design, mounting all the external I/O and then the hardest job, detailing all the panels.

If this all comes together, I may offer the case and panels as a kit so you can build your own VCS3 Clone, any takers?
